dumbing down cookbooks?

I was reading an article in the Food section of washingtonpost.com today. The article was about how American's cooking skills and knowledge have diminished over the past two generations. Here's a little tidbit that made me chuckle...

"At a conference last December, Stephen W. Sanger, chairman and chief executive of General Mills Inc., noted the sad state of culinary affairs and described the kind of e-mails and calls the company gets asking for cooking advice: the person who didn't have any eggs for baking and asked if a peach would do instead,..."

Tee-hee! An entertaining article. Click on this post's title to see the article.

Sunday papers

Sunday morning is all about drinking coffee, relaxing and reading the newspaper. Today's news just makes me uptight. Within the first 5 pages were no less than 4 articles that just make me mad.

The Bush admin selling Washington and Oregon forest land to generate funds...nice.

San Diego Airport Authority is proposing an airport 110 miles from town, in an area known to contain endangered wildlife...and who is gonna drive all the way out there to fly?

Children's book moved to the fiction section. A book about two male penguins adopting an egg (true story apparently) was found objectionable by some parents, they thought it was overly homosexual...tell those penguins to knock it off!

Guantanamo bay prisoners...content of this article doesn't matter, the whole thing is cruel, drawn-out and becoming a bigger mess every day. Bush and Cheney wonder why so many people wanna kill Americans...hmmm.

Well, I need to move on to the Travel section for a bit of light reading.
